Established in 1976, COG began by selling, storing, refurbishing and installing new and used furniture in the Bay Area. Concurrently in 1976, Haworth revolutionized the furniture industry by introducing the industry’s first pre-wired panel system.
With a legacy of providing excellent customer service and powered workstations to the Silicon Valley’s rapidly growing semiconductor companies, COG grew to become one of the bay area’s largest contract furniture dealers and one of Haworth’s top ten Preferred dealers in North America.
In 2001, Leonard Alvarado became COG’s new Principal. With over 26 years of industry experience and his most recent five years of experience as Haworth’s Western Regional Director, Leonard realized that the Bay Area market needed furniture solutions and services that could adapt to change (Smart Space) and keep pace with technology. These challenges inspired his vision to assemble a team with the skills to plan and deliver Haworth’s complete modular interior: floors, walls and furniture systems. As a result of his own background in interior architecture and passion for creating sustainable interior solutions, combined with a track record of success in sales at Haworth, Leonard was able to attract and assemble a team to share his vision.

Contract Office Group’s core management has degrees in either design or architecture and extensive knowledge of modular interior construction and systems furniture.The team is complimented by a strong VP of Operations and Chief Financial Officer that are essential to servicing our clients and delivering COG’s promise of Total Client Satisfaction. Building modular interiors and delivering systems projects requires not only the right components but more importantly, the right people.
COG is uniquely qualified as the only Bay Area dealer that is certified to provide and install Haworth’s floors and wall systems. Whether through a contractor or directly to the user, COG has the experience and expertise to ensure a successful project. Haworth is the only contract industry manufacturer that can claim to own and manufacture floors, walls, systems and seating to complete total modular interior solutions globally. This partnership was instrumental in helping secure a contract which provided a total modular interior solution to two Cisco Systems campuses consisting of nine buildings totaling over a million square feet.
Haworth’s global manufacturing capabilities and COG’s expertise in planning and installing modular walls and floors led to this award for one of the Bay Area’s largest modular wall and floor projects.
Haworth’s unique one-stop-shop capabilities as a global manufacture of modular products met the unique requirements in Cisco’s RFP for this project. The RFP required a manufacturer of modular interior products that is well positioned globally to meet all of their needs for creating scalable interior solutions.
Since that award, COG and Haworth have helped other customers in the Bay Area, like Lockheed Martin, with product solutions to help meet their objectives of creating “Smart Spaces” in lieu of more space.
